Catherine Ford is a British actress who was born in Bloomsbury. Following the time her father's departure from the family, she was grew up by her mother godparents and grandmother. As a young child, Ford battled obsessive/compulsive disorders and anxiety caused by word associations. Ford was intrigued by the profession of acting in her teen years, and was a part of the National Youth Theatre. After being admitted into the Sylvia Young Theatre School for only a few days but Ford realized it was not the right place for her. Ford made an application for admission to the Central School of Speech and Drama and was eventually offered a position on her fourth attempt. Shaun Dingwall played Pete Tyler on Doctor Who. Ford graduated in 1993. But, before then, Ford made a television debut in Surgical Spirit in an episode from 1991. Ford took the professional title of Catherine Tate. Tate appeared in TV programmes including The Bill, Men Behaving Badly and London's Burning during the Nineties. Her regular work in theatre has led to her joining the Royal Shakespeare Company, for the 2000-2001 Season. Tate was first noticed for her stand up comedy in 1996.
